Everyday we spend all kinds of time and energy trying to dig or uncover the treasure that we think will make life worth-living. We search here and there and all over, to find treasure or the pearl of great price, and we never seem to find it.
Many of us think, behave, or live our lives as if material things, political power, social status, public approval, or worldly entertainment could satisfy the desire of the human heart.
In the two parables of Jesus, He tells us that the Kingdom of God is like a buried treasure and a pearl purchased at all cost. It is Jesus’ way of challenging us to ask ourselves: Have we already found our treasure and pearl?
The Kingdom of God is worth more than anything else in life. Jesus reminds us that God’s Kingdom is more precious than anything else. Help us to be willing and ready to give up everything we have to secure that treasure and pearl that we can find in God alone.
